Another Tribute to Gina...

It's been a long time since you've heard from me. I've been quietly tatting and processing life. Finding it difficult to figure out what to say and how to say it, I know we have lost a wonderful woman in the tatting world. This then is a small tribute to the Tatting Goddess, Gina. Never having met her, it was a uniquely vicarious loss. She was a wonderful presence in this cyber world and always supportive in her comments. All the way to her end here on this earth she was so very supportive and kind. So, Rest In Peace dear, Gina! You will be missed.

As I said, I've been tatting. I believe this project is appropriate to show you with this tribute to Gina as it definately will depict the continuation of life and our art. Here is a look at the next project...

I'm working on a baby bonnet....and of course, I'm not following anybody's pattern. I am using a couple patterns published out there for the base of the work. You may recognize the 'Down the Garden Path' by Pam Palmer as well as pattern #50 from the Catherine Austin book "A New Twist on Tatting". I'm combining the patterns to create the top of the bonnet.

I will then create something for the back of the bonnet. I hope to begin that part later tomorrow or later in the week. I may have several questions as I approach the back.

I'll check back in and keep you posted on the progress.

Until then, please be safe and treat yourself with respect!!
John

  1. You amaze me, John! I have enough trouble following an individual pattern. I can't imagine combining patterns. What you've done so far is gorgeous! I look forward to seeing the finished bonnet.

  3. Fantastic, John. I'm making a pair of baby booties, R. Jones, and am wishing I were done so I could start next project. Booties don't take near as long as your bonnet. You amaze me with the skill and patience to design and make such a treasure. Karen in OR

  5. It looks elegant already! - but without a pattern, how on earth do you know how long to make it?
I like what you've done sofar because it's a lot more 'solid " than many of the older bonnet patterns.

  9. It's looking really nice, John! The center edging is one of my favorites, which is funny because the first time I saw it I didn't really like it.. That is, until you tatted it and I saw how nice it looked! Can't wait to see how this turns out! ^^

  10. Just joined in to follow you John...thanks for the tribute to my friend and brief acquaintance Gina. Second, I am so impressed with your tatting, I guess because you are a man and your tatting is just beautiful. It's also what you do with your tatting that I find quite impressive. I sometimes need to look at other good accomplishments to help give me ideas of my own...hope to see a lot more of your tatting..! Why my picture does that, I have no idea...!

  12. John, just wanted to say your Tatting work is amazing. All your pieces are all so beautiful. I want to learn how to do this now. :-) I am an experienced crocheter so I am thinking maybe it won't be too difficult. Are there any sites or books you could recommend for learning? Maybe sites with some free patterns to start. Are you self taught? Well thanks for your time. Your work would look great on period pieces in movies. Its so good. Thanks, Debbie
