Almost finished

Greetings to you all!

Here is the final decision regarding the placement of the lace on the first stocking.

After all your wonderful comments and suggestions I started to fiddle with the lace on the stocking. Then, I realized you all were right. Some said, 'the top of the stocking' while others said, 'dangling from the lower edge'. Well, how about splitting the difference?

It made all the difference...at least in my humble opinion.

I blocked the lace. It was quite interesting trying to figure out how to block both sides. So, here was my process.

And now for some 'artsy' pics

As you see, I don't pin every picot. That's a bit too tedious for me.

I have begun to attach the lace and will be done some time this evening. I'll then take pics and let you see the final project. And Finally, You will be spared of my endless drivel about the 'Christmas stocking'.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!!

  2. LOL! I had to block something like that once, when the lace was too long for my blocking board. I don't generally pin out the picots either unless they are twisted or otherwise uncooperative. I find they tend to pull the rings and chains out of shape if that's my main point of pinning. I can usually just pat them into shape. I like your final choice. It would be a shame not to show the satin somehow. I like your color choice too - not the typical Christmas red and green, but a lovely shade of blue.

  5. Look at those PINS! ARGHH!

    John,
I admire your patience and bravery with those odious-looking objects of torture... Better you than me.

I look forward to seeing the final photo, which I trust will not leave me with the tremors I now experience, as I peer in horror at your blog...

  6. Amazing lace! It is so richly detailed, and that satin is a perfect fabric for it. You did a fantastic job!

  8. Perfect placement! Just enough of the satin shows, and the 'icicles' drop off the bottom edge! Also, incredible patience for (and amazing photos of) the inventive blocking 'board'. You've come up with a great combination of edgings to create this beautiful, wide lace. And the Christmas stocking in deep blue is the perfect showcase for it!

I'm still enchanted by the top border. It never 'jumped out' at me before in Catherine Austin's book, but looks wonderful here.

  10. Outstanding! Magnificent! Incredibly beautiful. None of these attempts justify your work. I am at a loss for words -- speechless -- and that, my friend is hard to do. Well done on the lace AND the stocking.
