Before jumping off the 'endless edge'...

Greetings to you all!! I need your input on this one. I've tatted approximately 9" of the filet panel to be attached to the 'endless edging' (which by the way is 52" to this point). I need to check in with ya'll to get your thoughts on the width of the filet panel in relation to the edge.
The inspiration lace is above the unfinished project. I will be tatting the rows of rings directly to the 'endless edge' as you see in the inspiration lace. So, with that in mind, is the filet panel a bit too wide OR, is it going to be balanced? Be brutal here... Look again...
I can always stop here...before the first week ends and just use this as a sampler and tat up a complete sample with the edge, rings, and panel totaling a simple 9'.
whatcha think? By the way...I was just giggling having noticed the wonderful World Market endorcement....totaly unintentional...but isn't marketing wonderful? Thanks in advance for all your input!! Happy day! John

  1. Hmm.

I'm totally ok with you going with the width you have here.

    But...

If you made it one less repeat wide, I think it would look better.

Just my two cents. Which aren't worth even that much.

  2. I think its about right, how wide did you want it? what are you going to do with it depends on how wide you want it, I think its about right, any wider and it would over power it.
Hope my two pennys worth helps.

  3. I agree with Crazy Mom that the filet panel could be a bit narrower. I think the wider that panel is, the more it takes away from your beautiful "endless edging". In all, it is beautiful!

  4. ... I think two columns less would do it... less wider by two.. that make sense. The original sample has 7, your example has nine. My brutal but friendly two cents.

  5. I think it looks fine as it is, but I agree that it would look better with two less rows so that the edging is the highlight.

It sure is going to be pretty when it's finished!

  6. I agree with Karrieann, that would look similar to the inspiration piece.

  7. My brutal two cent's worth: your filet panel is lovely, should NOT be reduced from nine columns to appear more narrow and will NOT overpower your "endless edging." Here's why: Your "endless edging" is already wider than the edging on the inspiration piece.

In my opinion, the wider filet panel will keep the final proportions in balance with the inspiration piece.

Keep going with the filet panel and don't fall victim to "second-guess-itus." (I come down with it all the time, so I speak from experience.) Trust your judgement. You have excellent instincts.

  8. Hi, John,
This is not for comments, but rather a request: I need your snail mail address as I have something to send you!

  9. What Issy said. ;-)

By the time you get the joining row in there, it's going to be a good "off-center" proportion. You don't want too much symmetry between the top (filet) and bottom (clover edging). Remember your golden mean!
