Check it out....
Here is the beginning of a long...long...long relationship. I agree with you Erin on the pattern for the filet panel.
Here is the beginning...
I had a difficult time 'turning the corner', took a couple tries and had to pick a few doubles....but I think I'm finally on my way. Being left handed, it seemed to take a little more thinking to visualize the turn. I left the beginning 'as is' and am not going to worry about the messy pieces.
Here it is with the original piece. I've added a bit of width to the panel and am using a slightly larger thread. Very happy with the outcome to this point.
On another note...
The shuttles (clovers) were given to me by Hegla at Tat days. I've been a hold out using the metal boye shuttles and so these were a gift in an attempt to convert me to post shuttles. Once in a while I use a post shuttle if there aren't too many joins. But, so far, I like these and am happy with the joins using my tiny crochet hook.

This design is amazing! I haven't seen anything quite like it before. I really like the filet effect.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the look of this. I've done a lot of filet crochet, but this has a very unique look.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. So glad you were able to reproduce it. Erin's instructions are amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour filet tatting is beautiful. It is a great re-creation of your flea market find.
ReplyDeleteThe clovers were not an attempt to convert, just a gift for fun.
I have many different types in my collection, some for constant use, some for specific styles of tatting, and some for the fun of having in the collection (not yet used). Have fun!
Looking good! I gotta try that. Thanks to Erin for posting her interpretation of the pattern.
ReplyDeleteSuper-duper start! How much yardage do you have in mind?
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, John! Do I dare start another project? I think not! I'll just enjoy watching your progress!
ReplyDeleteWow, John. You're zippy! That looks great - I've been digging around and I haven't found that interpretation of filet in tatting-land yet. I've corresponded with Georgiabelle and she and the hounds are searching as well.
ReplyDeleteI've had a love-affair with Clovers for years. They look like candy. But they have less calories (unless you count eating all that chocolate while tatting).
Erin is so good! This looks wonderful John. You are really swift.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Hegla a love? I need to do some special tatting for her. (You know the special design)
I'm a Clover/Sew Mate gal myself. The Sew Mates hold a lot more in essentially the same design. I learned on the metal Boyle ones, but have tossed them in favor of others. Now I don't think I could tat on them!
That looks really neat! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I tried doing some filet before, too, and also had trouble with it, so I'm interested in seeing how you get on. You tat quickly.
ReplyDeleteJOHN!! That is outstanding!
ReplyDeleteJohn, it looks great.....I love the filet.....perfect proportions (and that's coming from a former Geometry teacher)
ReplyDeleteBTW, great meeting you at Tat-days.....
