Step One...

I think I'm going to charter a support group for those addicted to tatting and everything tatting. (for those in actual recovery over addictions...this is in no way meant to be offensive...so, please forgive)

Step one will sound something like this....

1. We admit that we are powerless over tatting -- that our lives have become somewhat more manageable as a result of tatting...well sorta, kinda, maybe not.

Hello! My name is John. I'm addicted to tatting.

How do I know this you ask? Well, I went to the flea again today. First off I met a dealer there (antique dealer..not the kind you were thinking) who gave me a steal on 50 madeira hankies. As you already know, I have enough hankies waiting for an edge to last me until the year 2080.

And then there was this. A sterling shuttle with the Greek key pattern embossed around the edges. I saw it a year ago and regretted not getting it.

Guess what?! It was still there. Waiting for me and my addiction.

As if my bender wasn't complete, I ran across this sterling shuttle. Nothing really fancy.

Wait for it.....................................................................

Flip it over....................................................................

And what's it say?........................................................

Beulah

Absolutely Priceless!!

Just what every male tatter needs! A sterling shuttle with the name Beulah engraved in it. OMG!! I was laughing so hard and drew a few looks...that's when you know you have an addiction...when the people around you no longer matter. I couldn't resist getting this one.

I now have Beulah's shuttle.

So, you see. I believe I have earned the ability to charter the support group. Who's in with me? I'll keep posting the steps from time to time...just don't take me too seriously.

God, grant me the serenity....

Happy tatting! Keep Laughing! Enjoy some peace today!
John

  2. Dear Sir
I am writing formally to beg admittance to the support group for tatting addicts. The only qualification that I can offer in my application is the fact that I've been in this state for over 55 years and have actively avoided all attempts to cure me of the disease.
I do hope you will consider my application and look forward to hearing from you in due course.

  3. I'm with you, John! I love the silver shuttle. It reminds me of a song we used to sing at Sunday night services... Dwelling in Beulah Land! I like to think that I'll be able to tat in the hereafter, maybe with a shuttle engraved with Beulah!

  5. Dearest Jane,
Do they give lifetime achievement awards in 12 step groups? If so, it's yours!

  8. you can add me to the list for membership, although, most 12 step groups are to help you avoid your addiction, I am not sure that Tatting is curable. seems to me the cure is the addiction, or is that vice versa???? anyway.....

  9. Well, there are several hundreds of us in NATA (Nuts about Tatting Assoc.) but I haven't heard of any activity in that group for a long time. You definitely qualify.

  10. Love your blog John; i've just recently discovered tatting. I wanted to learn how to make a tatted lace edge to the baby wear i make - the next thing i know I'm looking forward to more complex edges! It's a bit addictive...as is finding interesting vintage shuttles. This past weekend I bought the identical mate to your Greek patterned shuttle. It looks like it doubles as a pendant with the ring!
