I am for oval, because the neck is pretty much smaller than the head and otherwise you won't be able to close it around the head without folding the beautiful pattern!. I fully can understand your way of working. I can't follow any pattern in any matter of creative technique, my head sees some vision of something else, and most the time I create my own style and way of doing!
